No matter our differences, a health crisis like COVID-19 reminds us that we’re all human. But a handful of politicians deny the reality of the pandemic rather than get us the testing, protective equipment, and treatments we need. By joining together to elect new leaders like Marian, we can demand real solutions like paid sick leave and quality medical healthcare for all.
As human beings, we all deserve health care -- even more so during a global pandemic. Yet the Trump administration has refused to reopen enrollment for the Affordable Care Act during the COVID-19 crisis, when so many people have lost their insurance and need it more than ever. Marian will fight to make it easier to get quality, affordable health care. Marian also supports establishing a County Health Department.
“Reopen” the Economy
Most of us have two main priorities right now -- staying healthy and providing for our families. Republicans in Harrisburg called for businesses to reopen without a plan to minimize risk, endangering both workers and customers. Marian knows that with proper testing, wearing masks, social distancing, protective equipment, and contact tracing, Americans can get back to earning a living while keeping themselves and others safe.
Response to COVID-19 - Governor Wolf
It's time for us to unite across our differences and make policy choices that help everyday people. Pennsylvania Republicans have blocked Democrats’ attempts to include sick leave, hazard pay provisions, and PPE requirements to protect workers in the state's COVID-19 response. Marian supports Governor Wolf's plan to protect all of us during the pandemic and to safely re-open businesses, and considers the calls for impeachment and overturning the Governor’s Emergency Orders reckless.
Response to COVID-19 - Trump
Our health and lives matter, no matter what we look like or where we were born and raised. But the Trump administration and some conservative governors have not followed the science, have not heeded the warnings of public health experts, and have failed to provide the testing and protective equipment we need, causing unnecessary deaths and harm to workers and people. By standing together and electing new leaders like Marian, we can rewrite the rules to protect our health now and for the future.
Small Business Concerns
We all appreciate the local businesses that make our communities vital places to live and work, and we want consumers to be able to return to stores. But some politicians are willing to risk everyone’s health by re-opening businesses without the testing and protective gear needed to contain this virus, or giving businesses the right to require masks and social distancing. Marian will fight for the interests of small business owners and the safety of their customers and workers.
We all want to move through our communities without fearing for our lives or our loved ones. But too often, we have witnessed violence against Black people committed by police. Americans are coming together to demand that liberty and justice be for all and that our elected officials and public servants respect everyone's rights, no matter our race, accent or zip code.
We are now seeing freedom-loving people joining together to demand respect for everyone, no matter what they look like. As always, the already powerful few seek to divide and distract us by planting doubts about our efforts to demand equal justice. Marian believes that we can honestly confront our past and create a culture that offers the same promise of freedom and opportunity to everyone -- no exceptions.
In America, we believe in fairness. Yet for too long certain politicians in the pocket of special interests have handed tax giveaways to the richest 1%, leaving our schools, transportation, and other public services underfunded. We can solve this by electing new leaders like Marian, who believe that Pennsylvania must realign its budget with the needs of the people. Since the GOP legislature failed to fully fund this year’s budget, only a 6 month stop-gap, it will be up to the new legislature to reexamine the people’s needs, fund the remainder of this year’s budget, and develop next year’s budget.
Most of us, no matter who we are or where we’re from, want good paying jobs and livable neighborhoods. Yet for too long, certain politicians in the pocket of special interests have created a false choice between economic prosperity and the environment. We need to elect new leaders like Marian, who know that investments in sustainable energy like wind and solar will create new markets, attract new businesses, provide good jobs, and create a healthier environment.
In America, we create opportunities for and with each other. But certain politicians hand kickbacks to corporations who exploit workers and drive wages down while profiting off our hard work. Together, we can elect new leaders like Marian who will make sure that we get a fair return on our work, paid time off to care for our families, and a better future for our children.
People who work for a living ought to earn a living -- no matter their race or situation. But today, a powerful few get rich off what we create. By coming together to elect new leaders like Marian, we can achieve a livable wage of $15/hour while still giving towns local control to determine their own appropriate local wage rate.
Paid Time Off/Paid Leave
Caring for our families isn’t negotiable, particularly during a pandemic. But wealthy corporations profit by denying working people necessary paid time off. By electing new leaders like Marian, we can change the rules to make sure all working people are guaranteed paid time to care for themselves and their loved ones. Anything else falls short.
This is Not Socialism
No matter who we are or where we’re from, Americans take care of each other. But for the past 30 years, the Republican Party has scorned programs like unemployment, food assistance, and quality medical healthcare for all that help working families, while handing our essential resources to the wealthy few and corporations. By electing new leaders like Marian, we can build a country that takes care of us all.
As Americans, we believe in creating a fair and prosperous world. But today, a rich and powerful few try to turn us against each other while they exploit loopholes to keep more than their fair share of the wealth our work creates. By joining together and electing new leaders like Marian, we can create a fair tax system where working people have the resources needed to live safe, happy, and healthy lives.
All parents want the best education possible for their children. But because Pennsylvania has some of the worst charter school laws in America, its charter schools are exempt from the same ethical and transparency standards as public schools. Marian is fighting for fairness and will hold charter schools accountable for the tax dollars they receive.
No matter our zip code, all our children deserve a great education. But for too long, some politicians have claimed there isn’t enough money for our schools -- while giving tax breaks to big corporations. Marian believes we can develop a fair funding formula for our schools and raise the revenue without burdening working families such as by implementing a shale tax and closing tax loopholes that only benefit wealthy corporations.
From America's earliest days, we’ve valued education as the pathway to our dreams. But in recent years, some politicians have chosen to give tax breaks to the richest 1% instead of making higher education attainable for everyday people. We can make education a priority by electing new leaders like Marian, who know that affordable higher education is the key to our children’s future.
Most of us believe that whether you attend community college, trade school, or a university, you should be able to afford your education. But many students with high interest loans need years to pay off their debts and Trump just vetoed a bill that would have helped veterans who’ve been cheated by for-profit colleges. Marian knows that higher education is how we prepare for the future together, and supports forgiving student loans that resulted from predatory lending practices.
Trade Schools/Vocational Education
Most of us know that college isn't right for everyone, and people should be able to afford the training that prepares them for the work they want. We need to elect leaders like Marian, who will fight for affordable higher education, continuing education, and apprenticeships for all, in any form it takes.
Most of us want to leave a healthy world for future generations. But certain politicians who depend on corporate donations, ignore the obvious signs of climate change, overturn environmental protections and block clean energy development. By electing leaders like Marian, we can protect our air, water, and land by creating rules that will reduce our carbon output to reasonable and time reachable goals, improve our health, and create new jobs that can’t be outsourced.
In America, we believe in fairness. Yet for too long, politicians in the pocket of special interests have given tax breaks to the oil and gas industry. We need to elect new leaders like Marian who will end fossil fuel subsidies that promote operations that sicken us and degrade our communities, and make sure the industry pays its fair share. She knows that smart investments in sustainable energy like wind and solar are profitable, foster economic growth, provide good jobs, and create a healthier environment.
We all enjoy being able to breathe clean air, swim in clean waters, and enjoy Pennsylvania's great natural beauty. Yet some corporations choose to put profits over our environment. We can unite to protect our air and water, and preserve the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of our landscapes - particularly by making the ban on fracking in the Delaware River watershed permanent. Elect leaders like Marian who will enforce the Environmental Rights Amendment, fine businesses that pollute, and enact rules to reduce our carbon output to reasonable and time reachable goals.
Campaign Finance Reform
We say America was founded on the principle that all people are created equal. But big corporations too easily gain control of our state regulations and write their own rules. They now have more influence over our government than we do. Marian supports campaign finance reform for increased transparency and accountability for our elected officials.
In America, we believe everyone counts, which is why we conduct a census every ten years. But right-wing politicians have spread fear of the Census in our communities because they know when all of us are counted, we get the resources and political representation we're due. By making sure everyone is counted no matter their race, gender, or zip code, we can get Pennsylvania the resources it needs to thrive in the next decade.
In America, we have the right to choose our government representatives. But instead, some politicians choose their own voters by dividing up our towns and counties based on the location of their supporters. By coming together and demanding an end to partisan gerrymandering, we can once again have a fair say in who represents us in Harrisburg and Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, it appears the GOP-led legislature has wasted away the opportunity to get politicians out of the redistricting process following the new census. Marian will continue to advocate and legislate for electoral reform
Opinion of Trump
Marian would gladly support a president who made policy choices that steer our nation towards safety and growth. Unfortunately, President Trump has put Americans’ lives and well-being at risk with his delayed and mismanaged response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We need new leaders who will reject Trump’s divisive tactics and instead invest in education, create better paying jobs, and make healthcare affordable for all Americans.
People from all walks of life should have the opportunity to serve in public office. But career politicians often value their job security over making better choices for working people. We need to elect leaders like Marian, who serve because they believe we all deserve quality education, good paying jobs, a healthy environment, and affordable healthcare, no matter where we come from or what we look like. Once a politician has served long enough, it’s time for new leadership.
Our country’s strength is based on our ability to participate in democracy. But lobbyists and powerful interests change the rules and make it harder to vote because they know they can only win if they keep everyday people from voting. By electing new leaders like Marian, we can build a safe and fair election system so every Pennsylvanian can make their voice heard on Election Day.
Vote By Mail
Most of us, regardless of where we live or what party we support, believe that voting should be safe, secure, and easy. Yet Republican leaders are risking our health by refusing to increase funding for Americans to vote from home by mail -- even though many of them, including President Trump, vote by mail themselves! Marian will fight to make sure all Americans can safely and easily participate in our democracy.
In America, we want to send our children to school and know they are safe. But some politicians think we should arm teachers, putting our children in even more danger. By electing new leaders like Marian, we can enact common-sense gun legislation that will once again make our schools safe places of learning for our children and their teachers.
Most Americans support common-sense gun safety regulations. But politicians who are in the pocket of gun manufacturers and the NRA are against even the most basic gun safety measures. This has caused staggering gun violence in our homes, schools, and communities. Together we can elect leaders like Marian who will pass laws that protect our constitutional rights while keeping us all safe.
Specific Gun Safety Regulations (if asked)
- Bans on military-grade assault weapons, bump stocks, high-capacity magazines: Supports
- Red Flag Laws / Waiting Periods / Extreme Risk Protection Orders: Supports
- Statewide requirement to report lost/stolen guns: Supports
- Close gun show loopholes: Supports
- Mandatory safe storage requirements, training for first-time buyers: Supports
- Universal background checks: Supports
We all deserve the right to control our own bodies and to make health care choices for ourselves and our families without outside interference. But extremist politicians, who have more money and better health insurance than most of us, keep passing laws that deny us that right. Becoming a parent is one of the most important decisions we make in life, one that we should be able to make based on our personal values and medical concerns.
As human beings, we all deserve the care we need to keep us healthy. However, some Republican politicians are still fighting to take away the Affordable Care Act, even as so many people become sick and need health care more than ever. Marian knows that we can take care of each other by making sure we all have access to affordable health care -- no exceptions.
No matter our skin color or our zip code, when it comes to our health we all deserve to get the care we need without going bankrupt. But some politicians and greedy lobbyists have sold our healthcare to the highest bidder, letting insurance companies, hospitals and big pharma earn record profits. By joining together to elect new leaders like Marian, we can make America a place where we can all afford the care we need.
When we are sick, we all want access to treatments that help us feel better. Marian knows that medical marijuana can help control the symptoms and treatment side effects of cancer, PTSD, and other diseases. It is already legal in Pennsylvania for residents who get approval from a doctor participating in the program.
Quality Medical Coverage for All
Most of us want our families, friends, and neighbors to enjoy healthy and prosperous lives. But a handful of politicians, who have better health insurance than most of us ever will, are trying to block access to health care for working people. By electing new leaders like Marian, we can create a comprehensive healthcare system, including mental health, that ensures we all get the care, treatment, and medicines we need.
Addiction can affect anyone no matter their race, gender or age. But some politicians choose to hand out kickbacks to big pharma instead of addressing long waits for treatment, inadequate insurance coverage, and lack of recovery housing. By electing new leaders like Marian, we can make appropriate treatment widely available and help our friends and family with this disease get their lives back on track.
No matter our race, gender identification, or where we're from, we all need access to reproductive healthcare. But a handful of extremist politicians don’t trust us to make the best health care choices for ourselves and our families. We need to elect leaders like Marian, who will fight to ensure we all have access to reproductive healthcare including cancer screenings, contraception, and abortion care.
For most of us, housing is the biggest part of our monthly budget. But certain politicians and lobbyists try to divide us by keeping affordable housing scarce. They allow corporate developers to rig the rules, raise rents, and build houses only the wealthiest few can afford. It’s time we elect new leaders like Marian who will increase development of affordable housing and provide more short and long term housing options for everyone.
No matter our income or skin color, we all deserve a safe place to call home. Sudden job loss, a pandemic, or unexpected medical expenses can put any of us at risk of experiencing homelessness. Yet certain politicians ignore this problem, preferring to push it aside without taking steps to solve it. We need to elect leaders like Marian who will address the root causes of homelessness and increase the development of affordable housing.
Most of us want similar things – fair pay for a day’s work, time with our loved ones, a secure future. But some politicians exploit divisions among us based on what we look like, where we come from, or how we worship. By uniting to elect leaders like Marian, we can ensure all of us have our voices heard and our rights respected and protected.
Most of us believe we deserve a fair wage for a day's work. But a powerful few hold down wages for working people in order to increase their own profits. By joining together and electing new leaders like Marian, we can make sure that all of us can earn a living that allows us to live with dignity.
Human rights apply to all human beings, wherever we’re from and whoever we love. Our opponents use our differences, such as sexual orientation and gender identity, to divide us against each other. Marian believes fairness and equal opportunities are fundamental core values and she was happy that the Supreme Court’s ruling now protects all Americans from job discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation, but is angry that the GOP-led state legislature refuses to address this equality.
We take pride in our country being the "land of the free and home of the brave". But certain politicians try to distract us by generating fear and hatred of groups of people based on their skin color or where they’re from. Marian knows that we need to respect and embrace people with the courage and tenacity to move to create a better life. The best way to do this is to fairly assess each person’s case and create a roadmap to citizenship.
Every child, regardless of where they come from, what they look like, or where they live, deserves to grow up safe, cared for and able to pursue their dreams. DACA is a federal issue, so Marian would not vote on it as your state legislator. However, she believes when we come together across differences, we honor the courage and commitment of those who risked everything to make a better life for their children.
“Family values” means valuing families’ right to stay together. But certain politicians are punishing people who move for a safer life by forcibly taking mothers from children, husbands from wives, and sisters from brothers. We must make this a nation that honors the courage and determination of people striving to create a better future for themselves. By electing new leaders like Marian, we can make this a place of freedom, fairness and family first.
Most of us believe that life is best when we respect and trust our neighbors, no matter what we look like or where we’re from. But a handful of politicians try to keep us distracted from what they’re doing by stirring up fear of anyone who isn’t just like us, and refusing to fix an inadequate immigration system. Marian knows that we need to respect and embrace people with the courage and tenacity to move and create a better life.
No matter our zip code, we all depend on reliable internet access, especially now during the COVID-19 crisis. For too long, corporations have not invested in adequate internet access in rural areas because it isn’t profitable for them. We can elect new leaders like Marian who will promote internet access for all Pennsylvanians so they can work from home, run their businesses, attend online classes, and stay connected with friends and family.
Repair & Modernization
No matter where we live, we all need safe roads, bridges, tunnels, public transit, and public utilities. Yet some politicians claim that we can’t afford to repair our infrastructure -- while they give generous tax breaks to corporations. Marian knows that we need a better plan to maintain and modernize our infrastructure. This will improve everyone's quality of life while creating new jobs and business opportunities.
Criminal Justice Reform
No matter where we’re from or what we look like, we deserve to be treated fairly. Yet a powerful few point the finger at people of color for every problem, leading to mass incarceration with racial disparities at every level. By electing new leaders like Marian, we can come together and create a criminal justice system where outcomes are determined by facts, not race or wealth.
Most of us agree it's time to change the rules and adopt sensible, evidence-based marijuana policies. Our communities of color have historically borne the brunt of unequal enforcement of our drug laws. Marian knows we can repair this damage in part by legalizing marijuana for recreational use with responsible and adequate public safety regulations, which also generates tax revenues for the state.
We all want to be safe in our communities. But for some, the danger comes from those who are supposed to protect us. Police stop, harass, and use excessive force on people of color at a far higher rate than they do whites. We need to elect leaders like Marian, who know that we must demilitarize police departments, train officers in de-escalation, shift funding to more effective social service and mental health programs, and increase oversight and accountability.
If we're lucky, we’ll all eventually be senior citizens. But certain politicians and their lobbyists threaten to take seniors’ hard-earned Medicare and Social Security benefits and put them into the pockets of the richest 1%. By electing new leaders like Marian, we can protect the programs seniors have paid into and make sure they can retire in dignity and with security.
No matter our differences, most of us want similar things -- to earn a good living and have a good life. But a powerful few exploit the divisions among us. They send our jobs overseas, take away our benefits, and block workers from joining together to negotiate a fair return on their work. Marian will fight for the right to unite for better working conditions and pay. and honor and repeat the success of past generations.
“Right to Work” Laws
No matter our differences, we all deserve the right to join together and bargain for better pay and working conditions. But right to work laws weakens unions’ ability to serve as an advocate for all workers and a check against corporate greed. Marian believes that working people who benefit from union representation in their workplace must pay their union dues.
Americans agree that we should take care of our veterans. Yet certain politicians claim that we don't have enough money for veterans' benefits -- while they always find the money to reduce taxes for the richest 1% and big corporations. Marian believes we owe it to our veterans to make sure their medical, educational, housing, and employment needs are met when they come home. They were there for us and we need to be there for them.
Most Americans agree that we should take care of our veterans. Yet certain politicians want to hand over the VA to corporations who would profit by reducing the quality of care veterans receive. Marian knows that the VA trains many of our country’s doctors and conducts almost all of our research and development for prosthetics. She believes that the VA should continue to provide the best care to veterans, just as they do now.
Oil / Gas Industry Tax
In America, we believe in fairness. Yet for too long, certain politicians in the pocket of special interests have given tax breaks to the oil and gas industry. Marian knows that we can raise revenue for our schools, roads, and services by implementing a shale tax and closing loopholes for corporations who evade state taxes. When everyone pays their fair share, we can invest in a future for all of us.
No Fracking in the Delaware River Watershed
People in Pike and Wayne Counties depend on intact landscapes and clean air and water to promote the natural beauty of the Pocono Mountains and sustainable farming. Marian has had a life-long passion for protecting nature and practicing sustainable and responsible forestry. We can unite to protect our air and water and preserve the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of our landscapes by making the ban on fracking in the Delaware River watershed permanent.
Property Tax Policy (Seniors)
Most of us believe family comes first. But some politicians claim we need to choose between keeping seniors’ property taxes affordable and funding our children’s education. Marian knows that by implementing a shale tax and closing loopholes for corporations who evade state taxes, we’ll have the money to do right by both our children and our seniors.
Many people in Pike and Wayne Counties are upset and angry about the deterioration of our roads and bridges. But the GOP-led legislature levied a heavy state fuel tax then diverted the funding to other programs. Marian knows that we need a better plan for our roads and bridges. This will improve everyone's quality of life, promote tourism, get our goods to market, ourselves to work and leisure, and our children safely to school.
Ambulance services are an important emergency response along with police, fire, and rescue. Life-saving care is important and also paramedical care and transport. In rural areas such as the 139th district, townships provide volunteer ambulance service. These dedicated people are committed, but understaffed and underfunded. We deserve leaders like Marian who will champion changes to the county code by the state legislature to enable the much needed and critical county-wide coordinated response.
